Community Based Participatory Research Video Symposium

By Robert Greener, Doleatha Thomas, Amy Migura & Jeannie Healy

These series of four videos represent a video symposium about Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) created by four graduate students at the University of the Incarnate Word. Based on our personal learning outcomes for a class we recently took on CBPR, we developed a series of videos to be watched consecutively as a symposium of sorts. Each video speaks to the unique learning goals we set for ourselves as we participated in learning more about CBPR.

Our goal with these videos is to make elements of CBPR accessible to others who are interested in knowing more about an approach that “embrace[s] collaborative efforts among community, academic, and other stakeholders who gather and use research and data to build on the strengths and priorities of the community for multilevel strategies to improve health and social equity” (Wallerstein et al., 2018, p. 3). We encourage you to watch each and then reflect on connections you see between Building the “C” in CBPR, critical reflection and self-reflection, and Patient Advocacy.
