Conversations in CBPR: Addressing Racial Disparities and Cultural Sensitivities with Regard to Breastfeeding in the African American Community

By Robert Greener, Jeannie Healy, Amy Migura, and Doleatha Thomas

This padlet examines challenges and barriers facing African American mothers when it comes to breastfeeding their children–and how they could be addressed via CBPR.   We offer four different perspectives on the issue, including:

  • The importance of building trust within the community
  • How CBPR is rooted in a framework based on sharing and co-creating
  • Using poetry as a methodology for starting conversations and mobilizing the community; and
  • the rich, personal, lived experiences of an African American mother

Hoping to spark dialogue, we encourage readers to continue the conversations by commenting on the existing posts or by contributing additional posts to the overall padlet.
